The field observation of SoWMEX/TiMREX will be terminated on 12Z June 26, 2008 after the discussion on Science Meeting of June 25. Since there are many scientists are not available to attend the Science Team Meeting on the morning of June 27, we have decided that the Science Team Meeting will be postponed and the date for it will be decided after a survey.
However, on the morning of June 27, a program wrap-up meeting will be still conducted. The purpose of this meeting is to summarize the SOP/EOP/IOP operation of SoWMEX/TiMREX.

The agenda for this program wrap-up meeting is as follow:
Date: 01UTC June 27, 2008. The meeting will last only 1 hour.
1. Ben Jou and WC Lee: Program review (20 minutes)

IOP9 is started to operate on 06Z June 23, 2008 and will continue until 12Z June 26, 2008.
The new date for the Science Team Meeting is scheduled to be held on 00UTC June 27, 2008 at OCC of SoWMEX/TiMREX.

News from Evening Update (1400UTC June 22, 2008)

Because of approaching Fengshen typhoon, an evening update was held at OCC of SoWMEX/TiMREX on 1400UTC June 22, 2008. The purpose of this update is to discuss the proper measures necessary to be taken in order to avoid the possible damages to the instruments in the field.

We will also delay the Science Team Meeting originally scheduled to be held on 01UTC June 25, 2008 to a future date.

The field program of SoWMEX/TiMREX is expecting to stop the observation on 12Z, June 24, 2008. It is decided that the second science team meeting will be hold on 9am (01Z), June 25, 2008 at OCC( 2nd floor of CWB, Satellite Center). The major purpose of this meeting is to brief’s summarize the observations of the field program and to discuss research collaboration in the future. Everyone is welcome!

NEWS from OCC (0525UTC 30 May 2008)
第二次密集觀測(IOP-2)於5月27日06Z啟動,並於5月29日21Z結束。IOP-2結束時同時啟動EOP,EOP預訂持續天數為7日(6月4日21Z),並視情況延長。
As suggested by Science Team of SoWMEX/TiMREX, IOP 2 has been completed on 21Z 29 May 2008. At the same time, EOP has been started. The continuous enhanced observations will last for 7 days till 21Z 4 June 2008. Based on the conclusions of Science Team, there is a possibility to extend the EOP when there is a need.

5/19 西南氣流實驗『作業指揮中心』最新消息 (2008/5/19 0655UTC)
第一次西南氣流實驗的密集觀測已經在五月十九日下午兩點(0600UTC May 19, 2008)展開。IOP任務科學家為WEN CHAU LEE博士,科學目標為梅雨鋒面動力以及地形降雨之上游環境。密集觀測項目包括北船,南船一天四次海上探空。馬公,屏東,六龜一天八次探空。板橋,花蓮,東沙,綠島,台中,恆春地基探空站一天四次。沒有機載探空(DROPSONDE)。雷達部分SPOL,TEAM,日本XDOP,以及SUPERSITE都參與密集觀測。今天晚上十點在OCC有IOP UPDATE MEETING。機載探空預定在五月二十一日(星期三)早上五點飛行,飛行計畫為FLIGHT PATTERN A。是否為新的IOP還是IOP1的延伸,預定在明天五月二十日早上SCIENCE MEETING中決定。

0800UTC May 19, 2008, from SoWMEX/TIMREX Operation Control Center :
IOP 1 started on 0200UTC May 19, 2008, Mission Scientist is Dr. Wenchau Lee (NCAR). Scientific Objectives of this mission are Meiyu front dynamics and upstream conditions. The items of intensive observations include: 8 sondes per day for Magong, Pingtung, and Liou-Guei; 4 sondes per day for Banciao, Hwalien, Lyudao, Dongsha, Taichung, and Hengchung. N-and S-ships are available for IOP. But no dropsonde. The radar components include SPOL, TEAM, Japan XDOP, and supersite instrumentations. There will be an IOP Update Meeting at OCC 10pm tonight. SPGs are welcome to attend the meeting. Astra is putting on the alert and the flight is requested for 2100UTC May 20,2008 using flight pattern A. Final decision will be made on May 20 10am Science Meeting.

5/17 daily planing meeting summary
1. 屏東站(46750)自05/18起恢復加放03Z之探空。
2. 台中(99770)、六龜(99744)、恆春(99759)於5/17-5/18維持先前通知一天施放一次(00Z),並自5/19 00Z恢復正常之SOP作業。
3. 通知空軍三站、研究三站(台中、六龜、恆春), 5/19可能啟動IOP,並通知氣象局站(板橋、花蓮、東沙)可能啟動IOP,並有轉為EOP的機會。
4. 5/18 02Z之Science Meeting請EFG做Weather briefing summary。

With all major project instrumentation in place and operational, S-Pol and TEAM-R radars are observing terrain induced convection in the vicinity of the S-Pol site. The radars are doing intercomparison measurements. Tammy Weckwerth reports reflectivity in the 45-50 dBZ in the cells remaining stationary over the lower terrain to the west of the main mountains. On May 14, the north and south ships departed at 11:00 and 15:00, respectively, to start the shipsonde on May 15. The shipsondes will be launched 4 times per day.

The land-based rawinsondes, a total of 9, will be launched at 08:00 local time (00UTC) on May 15.

During Special Observation Period (SOP), from May 15 to June 25, these land-based soundings will be 4 times per day.

During Intensive Observation Period (IOP), and Extensive Observation Period (EOP), these land-based soundings will be 8 times per day.

5/12: 2:45 pm, First daily planning meeting, video conference between Taipei and Pingtung, Skype conference call to CWB (Jim Moore will initiate the call)

5/13: 2:45 pm, daily planning meeting. The 5/13 daily planning meeting will be used to plan our first potential IOP on 5/15.

5/14: 9:00 am, First SPG meeting (Discuss data policy, project execution and management) 10:30 am, Radar scanning and coordination meeting

2:45 pm, daily planning meeting

5/15: Beginning TIMREX, SPG and daily planning meeting and SPG meeting will be held routinely.

#1: Routine SPG meeting is to be held at 10 am everyday and Daily planning meeting is held at 2:45pm.
